ZOOM ART CLASSES
ABOUT ZOOM AND THE ONLINE LIVE VIDEO ART COURSES FORMATAbout the Zoom Art Class
All the current courses are now back in the venue at the BMI as normal apart from the Wednesday evening oil class which will continue online via Zoom.
The Zoom format seems to work particularly well for the Oil class, as it means we can paint longer (no tidying up 15 minutes before the end of the session now), and I can go into more depth with my demonstrations (I basically paint throughout the class, giving a detailed commentary on what I’m doing, as well as feedback on the student work).
In other words, the Zoom class follows the same structure as in the classroom setting, which begins with an introduction to the theme and the materials, followed by a demonstration by me to get everyone up and running, but a longer version of it. As I mentioned before, I still provide plenty of individual feedback during the online art class, but with the added bonus that the Zoom session is recorded.
After the live video class, the students receive a recording of the session, which only they have access to, and can be watched as many times as they wish. During the Zoom classes, the students are also free to share their work with each other, offering ideas and encouragement.
After each lesson, as an added bonus, I’ve been making group feedback videos on all work produced in class, which has proved very popular with the students. This is in addition to feedback during the lesson itself, as well as individually via email.
The Zoom art classes were initially forced upon me, for obvious reasons, but have proved so popular with the Oil course students in particular, that I’ve kept this one online.
In addition, I also provide 1-to-1 lessons via Zoom, in both painting and drawing media, if doing them in person is not practical.
